13 Jun Seawind Receives Strategic Investment from Enzen Global
Seawind receives strategic equity investment from Enzen to drive commercialisation of low cost two-bladed offshore wind technology
Seawind Systems and Enzen, today, announce their partnership through which Enzen will contribute to funding and resourcing Seawind’s hurricane proof, low cost, 2-bladed Offshore Wind technology. This partnership will help Seawind accelerate commercialisation and extend reach of technology globally.
Enzen, a leading Energy, Water and Environment Solutions firm aims to help Seawind achieve market leadership position within targeted geographies. This includes developing countries or regions that would not normally be able to afford the outlay involved in traditional offshore wind energy systems. Through a wide range of offerings across the globe, Enzen has relentless focus on clean and affordable energy solutions. Provision of funding and resourcing support to Seawind is in-line with this focus.
Commenting on the investment, Mr. Satheesh Kumar (Chairman, Enzen) said, “We are excited to be working with Seawind on a partnership that will bring affordable offshore wind energy to storm-prone places like Asia and the subcontinents. This technology has been proven to vastly reduce the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE), it has a longer life expectancy and lower installation and maintenance costs. Our focus at Enzen is to secure renewable energy generation across the globe. Through our partnership with Seawind, we are able to help customers efficiently incorporate offshore wind projects into their energy strategies”.
Mr. Martin Jakubowski, Founder & Managing Director at Seawind Technology said: “We are delighted with Enzen’s investment and strategic support to establish our 2-bladed offshore wind technology. Through this partnership we now have access to Enzen’s extensive global network and we are already working together on developing initial projects. This is a key milestone for our company as we move from proof of concept to the commercialisation of our revolutionary 2-bladed offshore wind energy systems.”
Seawind Technology is a leading turnkey offshore wind farm supplier. The first unique 2-bladed 4 MW system was built onshore in 1982 in the US. The core wind turbine technology originates from NASA Wind and has been demonstrated, upgraded and recently integrated in a low-cost and unique hurricane proof offshore wind energy system. The company is building a first Demonstrator deploying an innovative 6.2MW model mated to a concrete gravity-base (CGB) foundation off the west coast of Norway. At Offshore Wind Energy London, Seawind will demonstrate the cost, design and maintenance benefits of their 2-bladed energy system. Notes to Editor:
Seawind Systems AS management has been working on offshore wind and renewable technologies for the past 20 years. The engineering branch of Seawind Systems AS, based in Genoa, is comprised of engineers specialising in the design of wind turbines. Seawind distinguishes itself from traditional wind turbine manufacturers in that wind turbine engineering teams traditionally do not design both the support structures and installation methods at sea. The Seawind technology was originally developed for grid scale energy production in the United States using the most sophisticated simulation software for helicopter rotors coming out of Hamilton Standard and NASA fundamental research results. This made it possible to adapt most efficiently to any wind conditions with the highest efficiency, reliability and safety under all weather conditions, including cyclones.
